A Shakespearean play in three acts starring Neil Lennon as the tragic hero

A story so captivating and tragic, William Shakespeare could have penned it.

Neil Lennon was struck with a pound coin during the Edinburgh derby last night.

The Hibernian manager was hit in the face by a projectile thrown at him by a Hearts fan sat in the Main Stand at Tynecastle Park.

And while that’s obviously inexcusable, he sort of had it coming…

ACT 1: With the game locked at 0-0, Hearts appear to score a stoppage-time winner.

Cue pandemonium in the stands.

ACT 2: The goal is ruled out for offside.

Cue pandemonium in the dugout as Lennon goads the home fans in a fashion rarely seen from a manager.

ACT 3: Our tragic hero receives his comeuppance… in the form of a juicy pound coin.

POW! Right in the kisser.

It is fair to say it all kicked off in the Edinburgh derby last night…

A last-minute disallowed goal, celebrated by Neil Lennon, caused carnage.

“It’s unsavoury to say the least,” Lennon said after the game.

“It’s unacceptable. People will say I was winding the crowd up, I wasn’t.

“I was just giving a bit back for the abuse I was taking for 90 minutes.”

Further proof, not that we need it, that Scottish football is delightfully wild.

The two rivals meets again on December 29th.
