Jose Mourinho completely made up a position for Jesse Lingard last night
Thanks to Pep Guardiola’s ingenuity the false nine role is now pretty commonplace in the footballing lexicon.
But has Jose Mourinho just coined his own pioneering term?

Man United battled back from two goals down to beat Crystal Palace 3-2 on Monday night.
The Red Devils, aside from the last 20 minutes or so, were dreadful and repeatedly squandered possession at Selhurst Park.
A few tactical tweaks changed the game and goals from Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic’s late thronker lifted them back above Liverpool into second.

But Mourinho reserved special praise for Jesse Lingard – a player who he moved out of position to right back in the latter stages as they pushed for a turnaround.
And the Special One has described Lingard’s new role as a ‘fake right back’, particularly after introducing Juan Mata as a substitute for Antonio Valencia.

He told reporters after the match: “With the disgraceful, childish second goal, everything changed.
“Then the players kept an amazing attitude, Lingard on the right as a fake right created problems.”
